Without management, urban forested natural areas can become degraded over time and potentially lose the attributes, functions, and the benefits that forests provide. Making a plan allows you to budget time, staff, and resources. Short term plans can direct site level work and ensure management success. Longer term plans can provide stability through political cycles and individual staff tenure and can allow for significant forest change to take place.
