Across the United States, there are about 1.8 million acres of forests embedded in urban landscapes. Unlike other parts of the urban forest, like street trees or trees found in landscaped parks, "forests in cities" refers to the complex, diverse forests that are more similar to rural forests. The social, ecological, climate, and economic value of these urban forested natural areas to cities is vast, but is rarely fully expressed. The Forests in Cities Resource Library is a curated source for urban forest managers and other practitioners to explore best practices, research, and case studies. In learning from each other, we hope to enhance forest health in urban areas and make the case for greater support and appreciation of urban forested natural areas.
